Living in Venture county (Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village)

I moved to Westlake Village in 2000 and have enjoyed it and also neighbouring cities.

Here are few things I like about living here.

  1. It has nice landscapes- mountains, trees and lakes. It is also 20 mintues away from nice beaches which are usually less crowded than othe LAX beaches. Look at the hiking group that I belong to: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lahikers/ . We have explored Wildwood park (Paradise Falls, Lezard Rock, Indian Cave, Santa Rosa Trail etc) in Thousand Oaks, Rocky Peak in Simi valley, Paramount Ranch in Santa Monica mountains, Simi Peak and China Flats in Westlake Village/ Oak Park, Point Dume in Malibu, Sunset Blvd hills, Sand stone peak and Grotto in Circle X ranch, Malibu Canyon State Park, Cresto canyon, Cheseeboro canyon, Hillcrest Open Space in thousand Oaks, Grotto Trail , Boney Mountain etc. Have plans to visit Hollywood Mt hike and some hikes in Channel Island National Park...

    2. Thousand Oaks is part of Conejo valley which has a very good school district- Conejo Unified School Distict. Also, there are planty of activities and organizations for school. If you have a young kid, don't forget to enroll him/her in local basketball activities- Conejo Youth Basketball Association (CYBA) and Westlake National Junior Basketball (NJB).
    3. In April-May, don't forget to visit the Underwood Farm for fresh strawberry picking.

(In those old days, Paymybills.com or something like that gave me 50$ for trying their service. I tried their service and paid two utility bills for free. Citifi gave me almost 175$ for opening bank accounts and trying their services. They also gave me better than a CD rate on my money market account. I guess they realized their cost sooner and shut off their operataion. Though my current online bank Netbank is also pretty good, I still miss Citifi.
Free ISPs used to give internet access for free. Some companies like alladvantage.com or someone like that would even pay good money for displaying their ads. Free web space was everywhere. I had my homepage on like 5/6 sites and had a website even for my 6 year old son! XDrive would give you free hard disk space on internet to store important information that can be easily accessed from anywhere and also in case of disaster. The list is endless and so are the regrets... I am still a big fan of Internet. I buy my air travel tickets online from Priceline.com, buy or sell most of the books and gadgets from site like eBay. I also like MP Superstore for great prices! This helps me save good deal of money. But nothing compares like that free money...I hope those nice chaps at venture funds again become generous and give money to those internet companies...)
